Pirate Dress

3 year-old dress

I wasn't planning to choose a corduroy, but ultimately that's what I went with, and I'm glad I did since she can wear it this fall and winter with a shirt and tights underneath.

I didn't want to make it overly PINK, so I chose the sable background. I happened to have a cute pink print from JoAnn's that went perfectly, and a pink satin ribbon in my stash. I had enough of the fabric left over to make a matching purse as well. I think it was a hit!

P.S. I finished all my seams with French seams, and I'm so glad I did. I love how clean it looks on the inside, and know it will go through the wash many, many times. I can't remember which pattern I used, but I know it's Simplicity, and the only changes I made were to rip out the neckband facing and replace it with bias tape. The facing was so fidgety, and no matter what I did it wouldn't lie flat, so off it came. I think if I used this pattern again, I'd probably leave off the ribbon at the waist as well, since it seemed a bit too much. And what is up with not having you sew down the top of the ribbon??? I didn't, and it seems odd. No, the ribbon isn't actually crooked in the middle, it just looks like it. (I may "borrow" the dress and tack it down.)
