Yarn Along: Fini's New Hat and Game of Thrones

This week we went on a four hour (one way) road trip to visit family, which gave me loads of time to knit.  I had bought this wonderful Malebrigo Rios yarn in a beautiful colorway that Eamon picked out, with the sole purpose of making the boys new hats for this winter.  And then I forgot my pattern.

So, I spent a good amount of time working on a hat--getting nearly to the decreases--before I realized it was going to be too small.  So, I frogged that one, then re-cast on at a good size for Fini.  It's a good thing I have made so many hats, as I was able to whip this one out from memory.

After taking Anna's Finishing Details class at Sewing Summit, I've been thinking more about the little details on the items I make.  And, I needed a way for the boys to tell their hats apart, once I've finished Eamon's.  So, I hand-sewed a little bit of fun squirrel ribbon on it.  I think it makes it super special.

In keeping with the Yarn Along theme, I'm currently reading the third book in the Game of Thrones series, A Storm of Swords, by George R.R. Martin.  I'm loving the series, but for some reason I'm finding this particular book a tedious read.  I think the issue more our daily life--the terrible twos, family falling ill, my personal health issues--than the actual book though.
