Winter Walk

Last week was beautiful: crisp and icy, bright and sunny.  So the baby and I went outside a lot--jogging, walking, playing in the yard.  It's been staying in the 30's the entire day, so the frost remains on the ground constantly.  As long as we watch our steps, we don't slip too much.  I've only fallen once, but Fini has slid a bunch.  Thankful for his padded bottom.

This week it's foggy: so foggy that you can't see more than a block or two ahead.  And it's so grey all day.  It's eerie, and I don't like it, so we're inside a lot.  Boo.  Hopefully the weather clears up a bit soon.  I'd prefer the constant rainy--read: typical winter--that we're used to.

At least being inside gives me a chance to catch up on my reading.  I'm nearing the end of Cloud Atlas and itching to re-read Life of Pi for our upcoming book club meeting.  And we're at the YMCA a lot, since the winter class session started a couple of weeks ago.  The boys are both in swimming lessons, and Eamon has karate.  I've also started piano lessons again.  This is my second week, and I'm not terrible!  So much to keep track of and work on, but each time I sit down to practice, it's a noticeable improvement.  My class is with another girl who's about 12.  She's been playing for a little longer than me, and I feel like she's wondering what a grown woman is doing taking lessons.  But it's ok.  She sits and listens to me play, the same way that I sit and listen to her play.

I've hit a plateau with my weight loss.  Unfortunately, it's not so easy to stay on track, and with the lack of motivation, I'm just sitting at about 30 pounds lost.  I've been working out about 5 days a week, and I've just finished the third week of the Couch to 5K program.  But the food part is SO HARD.  I LOVE CARBS.  Like, I want to marry them.  But I'm already married so I need to kick the habit.  I NEED TO KICK THE HABIT!  Must find my motivation again.  Send positive thoughts, please.
