Thrifted Baby
Yup, you read that right! I found a baby doll for little Bug at Value Village, along with a wooden cradle. The first thing he did was give him kisses, and ask for a blanket for his baby. Mommy was happy to oblige. 25 minutes later, Bug had a new tiny blanket, and Mommy had a somewhat lighter scrap basket.
The baby is naked, but I'll fix that soon. (Bug says the baby needs shorts.)
Also, I'm looking for my first digital SLR camera. I want something entry level, which I can use for not only better photos for my store, but to dabble a bit in photography...does anyone have any input? I'm looking at the Nikon D40, although a few people have suggested the Canon EOS Rebel XSi, and of course if you have a favorite, let me know!

Merry Halloween?
There is a house down the street that has an amazing amount of Christmas lights. They've been up for about a week now. Jes and I were wondering what they were thinking, being all early and stuff.
Well, then we drove by last night, and noticed that in addition to all their Christmas decorations, they also have jack o'lanterns...
Are they confused? I mean, I know there are Christmas displays in all the stores we shop at, as well as Halloween and Thanksgiving, but I don't think I've ever been confused enough to decorate for two holidays at once.
(I wanted to take a picture, but I didn't want to seem all stalkerish.)
Edited to say that I took pictures (stalker!) both in the daylight and at night...they're not the best, but you get the idea...look closely and you'll see a pumpkin just under the red wreath...

Finished Lorna's Laces Socks!!!
They're done, and I love them. I've worn them three times since Sunday (yes, I was patient enough to let them air dry each time...)
Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock Yarn, Lorna's Laces Basic Sock Pattern, Size 0 Needles.

I also just updated the shop. More to come soon!

And just in case you were wondering, here's the quilt I'm currently working on.

Bag of Awesomeness
I finally made my new Fall bag. It's awesome. Chocolate brown corduroy, a pretty floral cotton, and a big shell button. It fits everything.
Seriously, it's awesome.

Grandpa's Birthday Weekend
This weekend we drove to the Tri-Cities to help celebrate Grandpa's birthday. Bug had a great time eating cupcakes, and all other kinds of food he's not usually allowed. Gotta love grandparents! :O)
It's a long drive, especially once you hit the flat lands. But I managed to spend the entire time knitting (without to bad of motion sickness.) Actually, I spent the entire weekend knitting, which was awesome! I finished my Lorna's Laces socks (no pictures yet,) and a hat for Bug.
Tonight I finished a few sets of cards for my shop. Exciting times!

Finished Quilt
I don't know why, but sometimes it's the small things that hang me up. I spent hours (seriously) perfecting my chain stitch on a label for this quilt, then realized that I didn't like it. So I ripped it all out, and instead appliqued a handwritten note to the back.
To make it easier to write on the fabric (I used a white muslin) it helps to iron on freezer paper to the back, then write your message ("Made for baby on his birth-day, October 2008, by Jessie, in Massachusetts and Washington.") I also added in a few tiny drawings, because it was fun! I used my handy-dandy fabric marker, then heat-set it.
Then just applique it to the quilt, making sure to remove the freezer paper before sealing it entirely.
The fabrics in this quilt are all from JoAnn's, with the exception of the owls, which is a Japanese import. All are very soft, especially after a run through the wash.
(I would post a picture of the label, but it has personal information on it...but it really looks good! I swear!)

Oh for God's Sake...Stop Makin' Messes
Tonight we were making the beds, and Bug decided to "hep-oo Mommy, Mommy good boy hepper." (Help you Mommy, Mommy's good boy helper.) He helped alright, all the pillows up and down and off and on the bed, and tangling the sheets up, and jumping in the dirty laundry. When he tried to get his book off the dresser, he also pulled off a few other things. He looked at me, and said, "Oh for Gotsake. Top makin' metses!" After Jes and I were done laughing ourselves to tears, he giggled and said, "Dat piddy funny!" (That's pretty funny.)
I think I need to stop talking around him, since his best words come from me...he might have repeated the S-word...once or ten times...and maybe the D-word too. Especially while I was quilting my newest quilt--I've gotten to know my darning foot, and my seam ripper, rather well. Happy end of the weekend!

See, I told you!
I not only took pictures, but I changed my inspiration wall. I'm loving the Joel Dewbury fabric in hoops, and my favorite cards from Anna Ruby King.
I Took a Lot of Pictures...
...but I can't find the USB connector to download them to my computer. So pretend you see lovely, full-color, in focus pictures, OK?
I finished The Quilt early this week. It's so pretty, and I really hope the mom to be likes it.
I finished a quilt top for our couch. It's got all of my favorite Japanese imports, as well as some plaid brushed cotton and polka dots. I just need to finish washing and drying the fabric for the back, and get more batting.
I made a new pincushion, with a little ribbon to keep sewing needles handy.
I finished all my latest commissions.
I started a Fall set of notecards, and have sketches for Christmas card sets.
I went to a knitting group last week, and am going again tonight.
And now I'm off to look for my connector. It's got to be around here somewhere!

Thrifting, Painting, and Tantrums
Oh my...

I did some thrifting and came home with a total score: a bag of embroidery floss, and a TON of vintage zippers! So cool!!!

I've been painting again! I haven't painted in about a year, so it feels good to finally have some inspiration and get some work done. I haven't had that feeling in such a long time, the one when you absolutely have to paint RIGHTNOW and it's such a rush, and you aren't thinking of anything but the colors, and you don't even notice when you get paints on your brand new American Eagle jeans, and it's in your hair, and you might have even got some in your mouth. I've been working on smaller canvases than usual, really small, like five by seven inches. I have a few paintings that I'm finishing now, and I just bought a few more canvases today. It feels good.

And this is the reason why I haven't been blogging much. My little Bug has a little bug, most likely brought on by our recent introduction to the mommy's group. Either that or he's getting his two-year molars. Either way, he's kind of driving me insane. Tantrums constantly, so bad that I absolutely had to leave today. He wasn't even asleep for his nap when I told Jes I was leaving.
Other than that, I've had quite a few custom orders lately, so I've been busy sewing. And I'm thisclose to finishing The Quilt. I just need a an hour or so to myself and I can knock it out. Oh, well, a little bit here and a little bit there. I'll take what I can get!
